History

Brandywine Regional Police is a full service police organization which provides 24/7 police protection to the residents of Wallace Township and East Brandywine Township.   The main police station is located at 1212 Horseshoe Pike in East Brandywine Township and the substation located at 1250 Creek Road in Wallace Township.   Construction of the new police headquarters began in the spring of 2006 and is slated for completion in late 2006.  Brandywine Regional Police has a total of 18 police officers and 2 civilian secretaries. Brandywine Regional Police are responsible for a total of 23.2 square miles of territory. On a perfect day, one patrol officer is assigned to each township with the patrol supervisor floatings a backup. It is estimated that with the continued growth rate of both Townships the Brandywine Regional Police could reach a size of 20-30 officers.

Brandywine Regional Police provide a variety of services which are tailored for the specific needs of the two Townships. The patrol division is responsible for everyday patrol activities which include preventive patrol, traffic enforcement, accident investigation and truck enforcement. Speed enforcement details are conducted throughout both townships in an effort to control problem areas. Truck inspection and enforcement details are conducted to ensure that companies follow the state rules and regulations regarding the equipment and weights of their trucks. With the assistance of Sergeant Pence and Corporal Moone, the Brandywine Regional Police developed the Western Central Chester Accident Reconstruction Team. The regional team is made up of police officers from eight municipalities who are specially trained in all areas of accident reconstruction.

Brandywine Regional Police are members of the Western Central Chester Emergency Response Team (WCCERT). The team consists of specially trained officers from seven police agencies who are responsible for responding to high risk incidents. Officers specialize in one of four areas which include tactical operator, sniper, medical technician or negotiations.

The BRP investigations unit is headed by Sergeant Gene Babetski. The BRP conducts its own criminal investigations and works in conjunction with other local, county, state and federal criminal justice agencies. Our membership in J-NET (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Justice Network), MAGLOCLEN (Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organization Crime Law Enforcement Network) and the Chester County Drug Task Force expands our abilities to investigate crimes by making additional manpower, expensive equipment and resources available to us. In addition to criminal investigations, Sergeant Babetski and Officer Steve Tyree and Officer Denise Knoke conduct the drug training program at East Brandywine / Wallace Elementary School. Officer John Williams, Officer Mark Twaddell and Officer Steve Tyree plan, organize and operate our Youth Academy which is held in late July. Other communitiy activities include police station tours, speaking engagements for civic and youth groups, fingerprinting of the kids and our baseball card collection.

The residents of Wallace Township and East Brandywine Township are very fortunate to have the Police Officers of the Brandywine Regional Police serving them. As the police administrator I could not ask for a more team oriented, professional group of individuals to lead. I can assure you that the BRP officers are dedicated to protecting you and that we will do whatever it takes to give you peace of mind, that in today's society, we all need.
